Hey oppo, I was recently given a bunch of HO !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! model trains for free, and it’s a dream come true for me. But I have run into an issue, I’m clueless on trains. No knowledge what-so-ever.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

So, does anybody know of a resource and/or train primer where I can start learning about trains? Mainly diesel engines, because that's mainly what I have, but anything will do. Thanks!

There are lots of basic manuals on wiring, track layout, etc that you can buy. Find a local toy train museum/club and ask lots of questions!

Pixel’s fist two sites are a good start point. Good tutorial re: buying on ebay (Most of my purchases are from ebay. You look like you have enough to get started.) Kadee couplers for replacement/upgrade when you can. Their website has easy to use look-ups for what to buy/how to do it. Your local library - 625 under the Dewey Decimal Classification. Good luck and enjoy. Planes, trains and automobiles are great!!

I know a little. For example what you chose for a picture is an example of GM EMD F-9 A-B setup the A is the locomotive the B is the part behind it is a cab less locomotive. The GM F and E series was made from the 1930’s to the 1960’s. The simple way to know the difference between and E and an F is the number of axles per truck. Fs had two, Es had three. These were very successful machines and very popular. The most popular as a toy is the Santa Fe as shown above.

As I said I know a little. My Grandfather was a train driver for A.T.&S.F. (Santa Fe), and I dabble in the model railroad hobby (nothing serious right now, that gets expensive and needs a lot of space).
